The beautiful city of Moscow, as the largest city in Russia and its capital, is one of the most important national centers in the world.
Geographical position and information on the city
Moscow, the capital of Russia, is situated on two continents – Asia and Europe. This dream city is located in the central part of Russia in Eastern Europe.
The geographical position of this city makes it protected against natural disasters such as earthquakes, etc. Moscow can be deemed a political, economic, cultural and scientific center of Russia and Eastern Europe, as well as one of the largest cities in the world.
As the largest and coldest metropolis in the world, in the city there are the Ostankino Tower, the highest building in Europe, the Federation Tower, the highest skyscraper in Europe and the Moscow International Business Center.
Carrying out the project for extension of the area and expansion of the Southwest to Moscow dated July 1, 2012, the area of the capital doubled. That was a significant gain, resulting in extension of the city’s area from 1,091 square kilometers to 2,511 square kilometers.
The city is situated on the banks of the Moskva River in the Central Federal District of the European part of Russia and is one of the largest European cities. The beautiful and picturesque city, in which there were built fascinating historic buildings having unique architecture. The vibrant and rich architecture, the traces of which can be seen in the multicolored domes of the Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed.
More than 40% of the territory of Moscow is covered with flora, which makes it one of the greenest cities in Europe. This is the city, in which there were the largest forests in the residential districts at its boundaries from the very start and up to completion of the project for extension of the area in 2012.

Moscow, the population of which numbers 12 million, is the sixth, in terms of population, city in the world and the most densely populated city in Russia. The city’s population density constitutes 85.372 persons per square kilometer. Besides, in the city there reside 91.6% of Russians, 1.42% of Ukrainians, 1.38% of Tatars, 0.98% of Armenians, 0.5% of Azerbaijanis, 0.49% of Jews, 0.4% of Belarusians, 0.3% of Uzbeks, 0.2% of Tajiks, 0.2% of Moldovans, 0.2% of Erzyas, 0.1% of Chechens, 0.1% of Chuvashes, 0.1% of Ossetians and 1.6% of other ethnic groups.

Moscow, the capital of Russia, has humid continental climate with mild summers and long, cold winters. Winters in the city usually start in the middle of November and last until the end of March. The average temperature is from -5 °С to -25 °С in the winter and from +10 °С to +35 °С in the summer.

In Moscow, snow, which is present for five months a year, usually begins to fall in the middle of October and falls up to November. Snow usually begins to melt in the middle of April.
