The First Pavlov State Medical University of St. Petersburg (PSPbGMU)

The Pavlov Medical University is one of the oldest and most important universities in the area of medical sciences in Russia, located in the northern capital of Russia – Saint Petersburg. It was founded in 1897.

The Pavlov Medical University is one of the oldest and most important medical universities in Russia, located in the beautiful city of Saint Petersburg. The university was founded in 1897 as Saint Petersburg Medical Institute for Women. It was the first scientific and educational institution in Russia and Europe that provided an opportunity for women to study medicine. In 1934, the university was named in honor of the famous scientist and Nobel prize winner Ivan Pavlov. Finally, in 1994 the university was renamed into the present-day First Pavlov State Medical University of St. Petersburg.

At present, the university’s students (5,000 students) study in 69 study groups. Besides, the Pavlov Medical University has 56 scientific laboratories, 11 institutes and research centers and cooperates with 43 hospitals and clinics in Saint Petersburg. This university is the only medical educational center in Saint Petersburg that has its own clinic, which provides the appropriate platform for the students to master the best practical studies.

In 2009, according to the Financial Times, the Pavlov Medical University made the top 10 medical universities in Europe.

At present, the university is headed by Professor Sergey Bagnenko.

Besides, this university has four dormitories, where there are rooms for 2 or 3 persons for foreign and nonresident students.
