Grasimov State Film University

The Grasimov Moscow Cinematographic University, the world’s first cinematography training center, is the leading cinematography university in Russia, employing many famous Russian directors and actors.

Russian State University of Cinema. Grasimova was founded in 1919 as the world’s first cinematography training center in a two-room apartment on Moscow’s Turskaya street by the famous Russian director and director Vladimir Guardian. At the time, students studied disciplines such as emotional flexibility, dance, fencing, acrobatics, and more, and due to a lack of training equipment, they were able to simulate film scenes using adjustable-size footage.

From 1934 to 1992, when the former Soviet Union ruled all independent states, it was called the Union of State Cinematographic Institutions. Among them are such famous directors and directors as Sergei Eisenstein, Lef Kolshev, Alexei Batalov and Mikhail Rim, as well as such famous graduates as Sergei Parajanov, Andrei Tarkovsky, Siddiq Barmak, Rustam Ibragim Begov and Nikita Mikhashkov. Six university graduates (Alexander Petrov, Nikita Mikhalkov, Vladimir Manshev, Sergey Bandarchuk, Leonid Varlamov and Ilya Kopalin) have also received Oscars in recent years.

In 1992, the institute was renamed the Institute, and in 2008, the Russian State University of Cinematography named after Grasimova.

This is the only Russian film university with a full-fledged film production training studio and a full technological cycle of film and video production. Today, about 15,000 people have graduated from the university, working in 80 countries around the world in the field of film production, directing, set design, production and much more. Currently, the university is headed by Dr. Vladimir Malyshev.
