The city of Volgograd

It is one of the largest tourist cities in Russia, situated in the south of the country, and in fact is the administrative center.

Volgograd or Stalingrad is a Russian industrial city and the administrative center of Volgograd oblast. The city lies on the western bank of the Volga River. The Battle of Stalingrad in World War II was one of the biggest and bloodiest combats in the war history. More than one third of the economically active population of the city is employed in the industrial sector. Its share makes up about 11% of the industrial production of the Southern Federal District and 46% of the industrial production of Volgograd oblast.

More than 120 ethnicities reside here in peace and harmony. The city has been dynamically developing with a focus on the future. About one third of the city’s population is young people at the ages from 14 to 30.

Volgograd is one of the largest educational centers of Russia

There are more than 50 educational institutions, to which more than 100,000 persons were admitted not only from Russia, but also from other countries. In the course of 70 years, Volgograd accumulated unique experience in international activities and public diplomacy.

In 2014, it was the only Russian city, to which the Medal of Honor of the European Union for international activities was awarded. It received an award from the Parliamentary Assembly within the framework of the International Competition “The Europe Prize”. The European Parliament’s representative handed out the Gold Medal to the city of Volgograd.

Volgograd is a cultural and sports center in the south of Russia

There are 8 theatres, 5 museums, one central concert hall, art galleries, one sports palace, 4 entertainment parks, as well as 190 historical sites, and, of course, 18 works of art and 304 sites of architectural art. Among the city’s sports facilities there are 11 stadiums, 250 gym halls, 260 places for sports activities, 15 swimming pools, 114 sports areas and football fields, one covered arena for football and track and field athletics.

Volgograd is a dynamically developing tourist center

Extension of the hotel network in Volgograd oblast is a crucial element of the tourist infrastructure of the region. Every year Volgograd accepts about half a million tourists. In 2009 the city was visited by 456 thousand tourists, in 2010 – 474 thousand tourists, and in 2011 – 648 thousand tourists.

At present, hotels, hostels, tourist camps and resorts in Volgograd oblast have 7,329 rooms and can accommodate 18,310 guests. Those places include as follows:

• – 123 hotels
• – 184 tourist camps and resorts
• – 28 medical aid stations

In the beginning of 2012, the capacity of Volgograd’s hotels was 2,445 rooms, that was 4,792 guests. To encourage development of the tourism industry, there were made new changes in the region’s laws.

All of this will play a significant role in the development of the tourism sector of the region. Today we can clearly see growing interest of the international hospitality providers in the hotel construction field in Volgograd.
